Let's open the ITIL book "ITIL® Foundation. ITIL 4 Edition" and see what we should expect from it. Since 2007, when ITIL v3 was first published, the world has changed a lot. Is this reflected in the new version of ITIL? What's new there?
AXELOS on ITIL 4
Over the 11 years of ITIL v3, service management approaches and best practices have changed and evolved. The owner of ITIL, AXELOS, has tried to reflect these changes in a new publication - ITIL 4. As we have already told in our videos, at the moment only the first book has been released - “ITIL® Foundation. ITIL 4 Edition" or "ITIL 4 Fundamentals". It is by it that we can judge what the new version of ITIL is preparing for us.
But before we tell you about the main innovations, let's see what AXELOS himself has to say about his fresh product.
ITIL 4 will help companies pave the way for a new technological era in which the speed of technological breakthroughs is disrupting virtually every sector of the economy. This is happening today and it's called the 4th industrial revolution: artificial intelligence, quantum computers, biotechnology, internet of things, 3D printing, self-driving cars, etc.
ITIL 4 provides a practical and flexible framework to support organizations on their journey into the new world of digital transformation: ITIL's reach has grown significantly, with a strong focus on the world of business and technology, how it works today and how it will work tomorrow, taking into account Agile, DevOps and digital transformation.
ITIL 4 has become much closer to the world of developers, explicitly swung at service management outside of IT, and can be useful for almost any business. Now, starting from the very basics (ITIL Foundation), the importance of collaboration and interaction, openness and transparency, widespread automation where possible, as well as a systematic approach to work are emphasized.
ITIL 4 is the next step, which includes all the best from the world of ITIL, all that it is valued for. But at the same time, realizing that constant change is the normal state for any organization today, ITIL 4 offers best practices that help organizations cope with the endless stream of change. Gradually moving away from the traditional process approach, ITIL 4 focuses its efforts on creating and delivering value to people and organizations faster.
